The PHP project ends security support for the PHP 8.2 branch on 31 December 2026. After that date, sites running PHP 8.2 receive no further security fixes. PHP 8.1 reached end of life on 31 December 2025. PHP 8.6 is scheduled for release on 19 November 2026.

    Why this matters

The PHP2Shell vulnerability of October 2026 showed that a flaw in PHP itself can affect every site regardless of theme or plugin. If such a flaw appears in an unsupported PHP version, no official patch follows. Your site's security depends on running a PHP version that still receives updates.

What this means on Fiberserver hosting

Our cPanel web hosting and WordPress hosting servers have every PHP version from 5.6 to PHP 8.5 installed. New accounts start on a current 8.x release, but if you migrated an older site your previous selection may have been kept. We recommend PHP 8.3, 8.4 or 8.5:

    • PHP 8.3: security support until 31 December 2027. A safe first step for sites with older plugins.
    • PHP 8.4: supported until 31 December 2028. WordPress, WooCommerce and most current plugins are compatible.
    • PHP 8.5: supported until 31 December 2029, best performance. Test plugin compatibility on a staging copy first.

Once PHP 8.6 is released as a stable version we will test it and add it to the MultiPHP list, with an announcement here. CloudLinux on our servers provides interim security patches (HardenedPHP) for end-of-life versions for a while, but that is not a permanent solution.

How to change the PHP version

    1. Log in to cPanel and open Software → MultiPHP Manager.
    2. Tick your domain, choose ea-php84 (or 8.3 / 8.5) from the list and click Apply.
    3. Browse the site: home page, a product page, cart, admin area. If something breaks you can switch back to the previous version from the same screen with one click.

    Checklist for WordPress sites

    • Update WordPress core, theme and plugins first; Tools → Site Health lists PHP warnings.
    • Remove plugins that have not been updated for a long time, or find alternatives; most PHP incompatibilities come from them.
    • Take a backup before switching. Our accounts keep daily JetBackup backups that you can restore yourself from cPanel.
    • Clear LiteSpeed Cache after the switch and measure page speed again; PHP 8.4 and 8.5 bring a measurable speed gain on most sites.

    Need a hand?

If you are unsure which version to pick, open a support ticket and we will review your site and make the switch with you. If your site is stuck on an old PHP version at another provider, our free site migration moves it to a current platform.
